Oprah’s Called to Support Me

Her Team Says BS

10/14/2017 1:00 AM PDT

EXCLUSIVE

Harvey Weinstein says Oprah Winfrey called him to say she was ready to come out and publicly support him, but Oprah’s people say it’s simply not true.

Our sources say Harvey has repeatedly told his team and friends that Oprah called him earlier this week and said he needed to speak out and defend himself, and when he did she would be right there supporting him. We’re told Harvey has said a number of powerful people have called to voice support, but he singled out Oprah over and over.

Oprah’s spokesperson tells TMZ, “Oprah has not spoken to Harvey Weinstein directly. Someone from his team reached out to her to see if she would talk to him, and she said she would if it was for an interview. There are no plans for an interview at this time.”

Oprah’s rep tells us Oprah was interested in doing a “60 Minutes” interview with Weinstein, but made it clear, “She was only interested if he’d look in the mirror and give her the honest, bone marrow truth.”

Oprah posted a statement Thursday, saying, “I’ve been processing the accounts of Harvey Weinstein’s behavior and haven’t been able to find the words to articulate the magnitude of the situation.”

She then quotes filmmaker James Schamus, who said, “This is the story of one predator and his many victims; but it is also a story about an overwhelming systemic enabling, and until that story is fully told we will fall far short of stopping future depredations on a similar scale.”

Police Called to Harvey Weinstein’s Daughter’s House for Family Disturbance

[ad_1]

Authorities reportedly responded to a call made by Harvey Weinstein‘s daughter Remy on Wednesday.

TMZ reports that Weinstein’s 22-year-old daughter made the call to 911 to “say her dad was suicidal.” Law enforcement tells the site that Weinstein was at Remy’s house in the Los Angeles area when they had an argument that ended up in the street.

Weinstein went back inside and authorities arrived soon after. Law enforcement sources confirmed to TMZ that Remy made the call and she said her father was “suicidal and depressed.”

An LAPD spokesperson confirms to E! News that they responded to Harvey’s daughter’s house shortly after 10:30 a.m. for a “family disturbance.” The investigation revealed there was no evidence of crime, it was just a family dispute.

The spokesperson also tells us that the Wilshire division LAPD officers responded to the home and the person who resides there called the police initially because they were having a dispute.

The person that the caller was concerned about was not there when police arrived and a public information officer is unable to confirm that the call into police was about Weinstein.

However, a friend of Weinstein’s told Page Six Wednesday evening the he’s not suicidal but that “his heart is breaking for his kids.” The pal also told the publication that Remy “overreacted” when she called the police Wednesday morning.

“Harvey’s daughter Remy was very upset and concerned for her father, because of what she’d read in the media,” the friend explained to Page Six. “She was crying, so he left his therapy and went to her house on Wednesday morning to comfort her.”

But when Weinstein believed he saw photographers, he left Remy’s house.

Weinstein has three children Remy, Emma and Ruth from his first marriage to Eve Chilton. This news comes just one day after Weinstein’s second wife Georgina Chapman, with whom he also has two children, announced that she’s leaving him

On Sunday, Weinstein was terminated from The Weinstein Company, three days after the New York Times published a story about his years and years of alleged misconduct. In response to the article, one of Weinstein’s attorneys Charles J. Harder told E! News last week that the article was “saturated with false and defamatory statements.”

Richard Simmons lawsuit in trouble after judge claims being called transgender is not defamation

[ad_1]

Richard Simmons’ lawsuit against the National Enquirer hit an unexpected snag in court. A judge seems to be ready to rule in favor of the gossip outlet for a surprising reason.

Simmons sued both the Enquirer and Radar Online in May for a series of articles that alleged the 69-year-old fitness guru was transitioning to become a woman. He alleged that, while he holds no personal ill-feelings toward the transgender community, the articles were false and defamatory to his character. According to The Hollywood Reporter, his lawyers argued that, as a public figure, he has a legal right to “not be portrayed as someone he is not.” However, a judge is tentatively ruling that alleging someone is transgender is not necessarily defamatory.

Although the outlet notes that no official ruling has been made, the court is making it clear that it plans to treat the issue of claiming someone is transgender the same way it would treat claims of race, illness or other “immutable characteristics.”

“This court finds that because courts have long held that a misidentification of certain immutable characteristics do not naturally tend to injure one’s reputation, even if there is a sizeable portion of the population who hold prejudices against those characteristics, misidentification of a person as transgender is not actionable defamation absent special damages,” L.A. Superior Court judge Gregory Keosian said.

He went on to explain that, while being transgender may subject a person to ridicule or prejudice from a large portion of the population, “the court will not validate those prejudices by legally recognizing them.”

However, according to Variety, Simmons’ lawyers are trying to make the case that the court has a responsibility to legally recognize those prejudices rather than plan ahead for an ideal world in which they do not exist.

“The object of the National Enquirer was to do everything they could to humiliate this person,” said attorney Neville Johnson, who represents Simmons. “They made it up entirely out of whole cloth. I submit that when you make something up intentionally… and put it on the cover, there’s an inference you can make that somebody’s reputation is going to be harmed.”

Keosian is thinking on the matter and is expected to give a written ruling soon.

Kim Jong Un called missile launch ‘meaningful prelude’ to containing Guam, North Korea says

[ad_1]

North Korea said its dictator Kim Jong Un was present Tuesday for a flight test of a midrange ballistic missile designed to carry a nuclear payload that flew over U.S. ally Japan and splashed into the northern Pacific Ocean.

The leader of the Hermit Kingdom has called for more ballistic missile launches into the Pacific — an apparent threat to the U.S. territory of Guam and a possible precursor to more missiles flying over Japan.

Kim expressed great satisfaction over what the North described as successful testing and said his country would continue to watch “U.S. demeanors” before it decided on future actions. He called the launch a “meaningful prelude” to containing Guam, which is home to key U.S. military bases that North Korea finds threatening, and said the country needs to conduct more missile launches into the Pacific to advance the capabilities of its strategic force, according to Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency.

The agency said Wednesday that the missile fired over Japan on Tuesday was the Hwasong-12 intermediate-range missile that the North recently threatened to fire into waters near Guam.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missile traveled around 1,677 miles and reached a maximum height of 341 miles as it flew over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

The U.N. Security Council said it “strongly condemns” North Korea’s launch of the missile over Japan and is reiterating demands for Pyongyang to halt its ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs.

The U.N.’s most powerful body approved the statement after an emergency meeting Tuesday on the missile test, calling North Korea’s actions “outrageous.”

The test came less than a month after the council imposed its toughest-yet sanctions on North Korea.

The statement doesn’t discuss any potential new sanctions but calls for strict implementation of existing ones. The council also says it’s committed to a peaceful, diplomatic and political solution to the situation.

North Korea isn’t on the 15-member council.

President Trump said Tuesday that “all options are on the table” after North Korea launched the missile over Japan, an act that instantly renewed tensions in the region just days after the regime appeared to be backing down from threats against the U.S. and its allies.

OPINION: NORTH KOREA SHOWED THE WORLD HOW IT COULD START A WAR

“The world has received North Korea’s latest message loud and clear: this regime has signaled its contempt for its neighbors, for all members of the United Nations, and for minimum standards of acceptable international behavior,” said Trump in a written statement released by the White House.

“Threatening and destabilizing actions only increase the North Korean regime’s isolation in the region and among all nations of the world. All options are on the table,” the statement continued.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.

Taylor Swift announces new album, called Reputation

[ad_1]

Exactly three years after Taylor Swift released her fifth studio album 1989 – she’s back.

She’s just posted a tweet which reveals her new record is called Reputation and will be released on 10 November.

All the photos have also returned to her social media profiles after mysteriously disappearing last Friday.

It’s her sixth studio album and led to the hashtag #TS6 to trend on Twitter at points since her “blackout” at the end of last week and this week.

The first single from the album is out on Thursday night.

Tweeting for the first time since her social media blackout at the end of last week, she shared a mysterious video of a reptile tale.

The singer continued her social media tease as she revealed the face of a snake in a third cryptic clip on Wednesday.

She followed up her video of an unidentified creature’s tail to reveal, as fans had expected, the mystery reptile was a snake.

The latest clip, posted on Instagram and Twitter, shows the creature’s head writhing around before snapping at the screen.

Swift fans reacted with joy, causing a rush of glee across social media.

There were a few though, who thought the endless teasing about album news, was too much.

Her last album, 1989, sold more than one million copies in the UK and six million in the US.

Taylor’s been a little busy recently winning a court case against an American radio DJ who groped her during an interview in 2013.

She said that by winning she hoped to “help those whose voices should also be heard”.

There are also rumours that Taylor could join Katy Perry on stage at the VMAs this year in a reconciliation performance.

Cops called after Kate and Jon Gosselin’s blowout fight at orthodontist office

[ad_1]

Police in Pennsylvania said they were called to an orthodontist’s office Tuesday after a dispute over custody broke out between Jon and Kate Gosselin, of “Jon and Kate Plus 8” fame.

The couple, who divorced in 2009, were reportedly arguing over their 13-year-old daughter and who would take her home from the orthodontist’s office in Wyomissing, according to Entertainment Tonight.

“The call came in at 1:10 this afternoon for a verbal domestic argument … over the custody of one of their 13-year-old daughters,” a spokesperson from the Wyomissing Police Department told Entertainment Tonight. “No one was arrested and the daughter did go home with the father after she expressed that was her desire to do.”

“There was a fairly lengthy argument as far as both parents had conflicting versions of a child custody agreement,” the spokesperson continued. “Basically, both stated something different and we referred the matter over to our county district attorney. The district attorney then reviewed it and the district attorney’s words were that the order was sufficiently vague to interpret who was supposed to actually have custody today. Both parents read their version of the order and thought they should have had custody of the child today. So, we referred them back to the court system to try and get clarification from the court system on who’s supposed to have the child on certain days.”

This is not the first time the split couple have had a dispute over their children. Earlier this month, Kate Gosselin reportedly attempted to pull their daughter, Hannah, 13, from Jon’s car, according to In Touch Weekly. Emergency services were called after Hannah claimed her arm was hurt in the ordeal.

Apparently, the incident occurred after “Jon and Kate had a hearing with a judge after Hannah refused to go back to Kate’s house,” according to In Touch Weekly.

The couple’s children include twins Mady and Cara, both 16-years-old, and sextuplets Joel, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin and Leah, who are all 13 years old.

Cops Called After Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin Get Into Verbal Custody Dispute

[ad_1]

Some ex-couples appear to be the best of friends despite splitting, but that’s not how it’s going for former spouses Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin who just got into a heated argument, which resulted in a visit by the local police, over one of their eight children earlier today.

Wyomissing police confirmed to E! News that at 1:10 pm, cops were called to an orthodontist’s office in Wyomissing, PA., due to a “verbal domestic dispute over child custody involving one minor (Female/13 years old).”

The authorities also told E! News that no arrest was made and that following the police’s involvement, the 13-year-old made the decision to leave with her father.

TMZ, who was first to report the story, reported that the parents came to the appointment together but got into a disagreement about who would be taking their daughter home after the orthodontist visit.

The world first met the Gosselins, who were then new parents of eight, when their Pennsylvania home was renovated for the NBC reality special Home Delivery. Discovery Health then featured the big family in a 2005 special, Surviving Sextuplets and Twins, followed by 2006’s Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later.

Clearly television producers and audiences couldn’t get enough and on April 10, 2007, Jon and Kate Plus 8 premiered. Two seasons later, the family moved on up in home and network, buying a $1.3 million house and switching over to TLC in 2008.

However Jon and Kate’s relationship hit the rocks and they announced they were separating in June 2009. On Sept. 29, 2009, TLC announced that Jon & Kate Plus 8 would be changing to simply Kate Plus 8 and would follow Kate’s new life as a divorced mother. The last episode of the duo’s show aired on Nov. 23, 2009.

Since then things have been anything but smooth sailing for the constantly feuding ex-spouses. The two have made headlines over the years because of their war of words regarding custody and care of their children, 16-year-old twins Cara and Madelyn and 13-year-old sextuplets Aaden, AlexisCollin, HannahJoel and Leah.

Jon and Kate Gosselin, Cops Called Over Custody Dispute

Jon and Kate Gosselin

Cops Called Over Custody Dispute

8/22/2017 1:14 PM PDT

EXCLUSIVE

Jon and Kate Gosselin got into such a heated argument over their kids, cops had to show up to sort things out.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … officers in Wyomissing, PA responded Tuesday to a dentist’s office to handle an argument Jon and Kate were having over one of their 8 children.

We’re told one of the parents took the kid to the dentist, but the ex-reality stars/exes got into it over who’d be taking her home. An argument erupted over the custody order.

As we reported … that deal of theirs — settled more than 7 years ago — is under wraps, but involves both parents having some sort of shared custody.

Jon ended up taking the kid with him, and cops told the pair to take up their gripes with a judge. Nobody was arrested in the incident.

Again proving … a visit to the dentist can be painful.

Mayweather vs. McGregor Fight Called By Announcer Who Hates McGregor

[ad_1]

Mayweather vs. McGregor

Fight Called By Announcer

Who Hates Conor!

8/22/2017 11:00 AM PDT

Exclusive Details

So much for an impartial announcer …

One of the guys commentating on the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight hates Conor McGregor’s guts with a passion … which begs the question, why is Showtime allowing Paulie Malignaggi to call it?!

Paulie was Conor’s training camp sparring partner until a nasty breakup last month. Since then, Paulie’s been on a media blitz, blasting Conor to every media outlet that will have him on.

He’s called McGregor everything from a dirtbag to a bum fighter — and insinuated that he was set up by McGregor’s people to be a fall guy in order to make Conor look like a legit boxer.

Despite the declaration of war, Showtime says Paulie will remain on the broadcast team — they see the situation as a “non-story.”

But it’s a big story … commentators have a BIG influence on how the public sees the fight and a constant, slanted trashing of McGregor could unfairly hurt his image.

In most cases, announcers tasked with working major sporting events like NFL or MLB games are mandated by networks to keep their opinions to themselves until the game.

So, why not Showtime? They won’t say …

Android O is officially called Android Oreo

[ad_1]

The latest version of Android is officially here, and it’s called Android Oreo, as most people suspected. Google made the interesting decision to reveal the final name and consumer launch details of Android 8.0 coincidentally with the arrival of the solar eclipse over NYC, which is where it held its launch live stream today.

Google has traditionally used sweet treats for the names of its major Android releases, dating back to Android 1.5, aka “Cupcake.” KitKat (4.4) was the last branded release, with Google typically sticking to generic dessert names wherever possible. Oreo is pretty much the only choice for an “O” dessert that’s broadly and instantly recognizable, however, so it seems like it was almost inevitable.

Here’s what Oreo contains: The foundational cookie sandwich pieces are likely the boot speed and memory improvements Google made by changing the way the operating system works at a basic level to boost Pixel smartphone start times by up to 100 percent, and to improve the efficiency of use of system resources among apps and background tasks.

For the creamy filling, we have picture-in-picture, which allows you to run video apps on top of other tasks, on both phones and tablets. There’s also now Android Instant Apps, which provide access to apps instantly without requiring a download for limited interactivity; notification dots, which tell you when there’s activity within a specific app with a dot in the corner; and autofill for apps, which is like the feature on the web but for individual Android applications.

Android O also ships with more security features, including remote location, locking and wiping with Find My Device, and Google Play Protect, which scans for, detects and automatically deletes malicious apps on a daily basis.

Finally, Google has completely overhauled their emoji set, which is a big change for the primary language of millennial users everywhere.

Android O is rolling out to Pixel and Nexus 5X/6P devices soon, Google says, and anyone on the preview will be updated to the final version, as well. Pixel C and Nexus Player are next up for official updates, too, with other devices to follow shortly.
