Target Is Trying to Come For Trader Joe’s With New $5 Wine Line

The days of wine-ing over expensively priced wine are officially over.

Target has released a line of $5 wines just in time to get you through the holiday season. With five varieties available, you can choose between chardonnay, pinot grigio, moscato, cabernet sauvignon and a red blend.

Even better? Your friends will hardly be able to tell you spent just a few dollars on wine to a dinner party because of the artistically crafted California Roots label—and the great taste of course.

The red blend and chardonnay have the highest alcohol percentage at 13.5% and sound pretty tasty, with the red blend tasting of “smooth berry and cherry flavors with hints of spice offer the perfect antidote to the workweek.”

The store even suggests great pairings to try with the California Roots wine, such as a dinner of crisp green salads and fresh fish with a glass of their pinot grigio.

Even though it is a whole three dollars more than the Trader Joe‘s “Two Buck Chuck,” they are definitely going to give the Charles Shaw brand a run for its money.

And don’t worry about rushing to the store, this deal is here to stay for good.

11 Products From Chip & Joanna Gaines’ Target Collection We Want Now

This may be Chip and Joanna Gaines last season of Fixer Upper, but the rustic-modern aesthetic they’ve come to be known for will live on…at a Target near you.

The design duo’s highly anticipated lifestyle collection, Hearth & Hand with Magnolia, will arrive in stores and online November 5, to the delight of HGTV fans and Target obsessives everywhere. Not only will consumers get a chance to shop affordable décor, like aluminum house lanterns and wool throw pillows—which have an uncanny resemblance to items seen on Fixer Upper—but they’ll be able to pick up family sleepwear and gifting supplies, too—all designed with the holidays in mind.

There’s a lot to be excited for—which is why the big-box retailer just released a preview of the collection, including Joanna’s favorites. While a galvanized house lantern will light up any room, we’ve got our eyes—and mouses—on a few other must-haves.

Keep scrolling for our favorite items from the collection.

With the launch of Hearth & Hand with Magnolia comes 11 other new lifestyle and fashion brands to Target. The big-box retailer released a statement earlier this year, announcing that it will slowly discontinue its previous staples, like Mossimo and Merona, for newer brands. Some of which have already been stocked on store aisles.

Chip and Joanna announced they were leaving the show also earlier this year, amid contract negotiation and marriage rumors. However, it looks like they are just slowing down to pay more attention to their family and businesses.

With all that time, next season’s collection will be even better, right?

Philippe Coutinho: Liverpool midfielder remains Barcelona’s number one target

Coutinho joined Liverpool from Inter Milan for £8.5m in 2013

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho remains Barcelona’s number one target but the Spanish club are also weighing up a move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.

The Spanish giants have had three bids for 25-year-old Coutinho turned down, the latest in the region of £114m.

Lemar, 21, is also a target for the Reds, who are preparing a £60m bid for the French midfielder.

Barcelona are also interested in Juventus forward Paulo Dybala, 23, who helped Juve win Serie A last season.

The English transfer window shuts at 23:00 BST on Thursday, 31 August with the Spanish deadline for buying players 24 hours later.

Barcelona had their potent forward partnership of Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi broken up earlier this month when Paris St-Germain lured Neymar away after paying the 222m euros release clause.

The La Liga giants completed the signing of forward Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for £135.5m last week, but are hoping to bring in “one or two” more players before the window shuts.

Barcelona technical director Robert Fernandez said at the weekend: “I won’t go into names but I admit that the club is working on the possibility of signing new players.”

Target and Cartwheel apps merge ahead of mobile payments launch

Target is attempting to simplify its mobile app strategy by merging its more popular Cartwheel savings app into the main Target app, before eventually closing Cartwheel for good. Today, integration side of things is complete – the main Target app can now serve as a way to both shop online and in-store, with support for lists, delivery and pickup options, and now, Target’s own digital couponing experience, known as Cartwheel.

The change is notable because Cartwheel is actually Target’s more popular application. While the main shopping app is often a top 20 app in the App Store’s “Shopping” category, Cartwheel tends to sit in the top 10. The Cartwheel app itself has been downloaded around 40 million times, and users have saved a billion dollars in-store via its deals – up from the $600 million reported last year.

Target will have a formidable challenge on its hands in getting that many customers to make the switch. Not only will they have to download the Target app, if not already installed, the retailer says that Cartwheel users who signed up with a social account, like Facebook or Google, will have to move to a app in order to port over their existing offers list and lifetime savings to the main app.

You can also choose to just sign up for a new account directly in the Target app, if you don’t care whether or not your list and history carries over.

The retailer had previously announced its plans to merge its apps earlier this year, saying that the change would take place this summer. It also said Cartwheel will be left alone for now, as it favors a slower transition. However, it eventually won’t make sense for both apps to continue to be maintained – especially when the Target app will be the one getting all the new upgrades.

Target had also said that other new features, including an in-store map showing your location and the location of Cartwheel deals, as well as mobile payments support will also come to the main app in time. The retailer has been working to bring mobile payments to its app some time this year. But we understand it may need to push that back to early 2018, as the exact deadline is in flux.

Cartwheel’s transition, however, is a first step towards supporting mobile payments. In the future, the plan is to allow customers to show a barcode at point-of-sale, then receive their Cartwheel savings and pay for their products with just one scan.

Target isn’t the only retailer to consolidate its apps. Ebay did the same a couple of years ago. Meanwhile, Target competitors like WalmartKohl’s, and CVS, all offer their payments and savings features within their main shopping app, not in a separate one.

Cartwheel is now available in the Target app on both iOS and Android.

Target Continues To Delight Us With New $5 Wine Brand

It’s safe to say that it’s impossible to leave Target without getting at least 10 things that you had no intention of purchasing when you first walked passed those giant red balls. Call it basic, call it a shrine to capitalism run amok, but strolling through the aisles of Target can be comforting after a long day, and the megastore is looking to make that feeling even more accessible.

On top of their really cute home goods (You need that candle and throw pillow! They’re on sale!), Target is set to roll out a new line of inexpensive wine. At just $5 a bottle, California Roots will be a great option for the budget shopper who wants a buzz without breaking the bank. With five different blends “carefully crafted with premium, California-grown grapes” — a cabernet, a red blend, a moscato, a pinot grigio, and a chardonnay — shoppers will have a few options for their next dinner party.

Target stores already sell beer and wine, but this is their first foray into their own branded alcohol. According to Jeff Burt, senior vice president of food and beverage, “We’re out to give our guests even more reasons to love Target—including exclusive products they can’t find anywhere else.”

The whole line rolls out in 1,100 stores nationwide on September 3rd (perfect for your Labor Day sangria), so Trader Joe’s Two Buck Chuck might want to watch its back.
